Abstract

Uganda is facing an acute power supply shortage which has affected all the sectors of the economy.  This paper presents the main causes of the electricity supply shortage and summarizes a plan for short, medium and long term strategies for providing adequate and reliable power supply in the country, in line with development of the different energy supply options. It points out the need for
public-private partnerships in power generation and supply, financial sustainability in the power sector and concludes with the need to review of the tariff policy.
